Missing additional IP's

Windows 10, x64, NSM v4.7.0, Activated

Somewhere in the past 2 or 3 updates I have a new issue (bug?) that keeps popping up.  I am a geek with multiple computers, and on each computer I run NSM, with some profiles set up with as many as a dozen additional IP's (so that I can reach all the various default IP's of various devices I might be messing with).

This has always worked fine, but now, on all all my computers, NSM will often (not always) only load a subset of the total number of additional IP's (like half or so) of a particular adapter in the profile.   The fix is to keep playing with it going back and forth to other profiles over and over until it for whatever reason eventually decides to set all of the IP's.  I tried setting the adapters to "restart" instead of skip, and that didn't help.

Any ideas?

Re: Missing additional IP's

The "Skip" message in the activation process indicates that the same settings are already applied to the system. Accordingly, the activation process for these settings is skipped, speeding up the whole profile activation. If it's important to reinitialize the NIC (regardless of the same IP settings), we recommend to use the Restart option for it.
But as you've mentioned, this didn't make any difference in your case.

NetSetMan applies all IPs at once, so we have currently no clue, how it could be possible that only some of them are applied while others are not. Are they random or the first x IPs of your list?

Please provide the following details:
1. An activation log (open it at the bottom of the activation dialog) after activating a profile with new settings (without the Skip message).
2. After that, wait for a minute, then run cmd.exe and execute "ipconfig /all". Copy the result or take a screenshot of the complete output.

Please post the results either here, or if you're not comfortable posting it publicly, send them as file attachments to our email address (https://www.netsetman.com/en/contact) referring to this topic.

Re: Missing additional IP's

Thank you for sending us the requested files. We've analyzed them.
The addresses that are not applied to your Ethernet adapter are the ones that are already applied to your wireless adapter. Windows doesn't allow the same IPs to be assigned to different connected adapters at the same time and therefore filters them out.

You might assume that you're avoiding this problem by setting the wireless adapter to DHCP, but in your configuration you're doing this after applying the IPs to your Ethernet adapter. You should at least do this the other way around: First modify the adapter that currently has those IPs (set to DHCP, assign other static addresses or disable the adapter), only then apply those IPs to the wired adapter.

You can change the order of sub-profiles within a profile by drag-and-drop.

Re: Missing additional IP's

Interesting.  Makes sense I guess, though I wonder how many users would be aware of the need to take note of what IP's are set for the various adapters first before choosing which profile to activate, and what order the adapters must be in, for it to successfully apply the new IP's?  Perhaps the addition of a check box for each profile that says "reset all adapter IP's prior to applying new profile" or something?

For now I will work around it by using your suggestions or reordering the adapters as needed before applying the new profile.

That's actually not a workaround but the correct way to do this. If you'd do this manually in Windows, you would have to do this in the correct order as well.
However, we should probably show a warning if a user tries to apply an IP that is already used by another adapter. We'll add this in one of the next versions.

Re: Missing additional IP's

Yes, if I were doing it in Windows, I would naturally re-configure the adapters in the proper order probably, and if I didn't, Windows would complain.  :-)  So your idea of showing a warning is a perfect solution!  Thanks!
