SMTP

Hi, and thanx for a great tool.

I am, for the most, using the hibernate feature in WinXP, and I use MS Outlook 2003 open all the time. And when I found out that I could update to a later version of NetSetMan with a new SMTP-feature, I was happy. But it didn't last.
When I run the account-test, the smtp-server is found but it cannot send a test-mail.
It seems to work only after Outlook is restarted.
Is there any way to get around this problem.

Re: SMTP

This sounds like your email client is caching the hosts file somehow. Is it possible that you enabled some option for this at an unearlier point without being aware of this now? Do you have any software installaled that modifies or manages the hosts file?

You can try to add this line:
ipconfig /flushdns
to the script feature in the After tab as a bat file.

This should clear the cache manually. If it doesnt help (even maybe after waiting about 1min) this must be a setting of the email client that I don't know about right now.

Re: SMTP

I have checked Outlook without finding any wrong settings, and also no progs. modifies or manages the hosts file. Your ipconfig /flushdns suggestion did nor make any changes, unfortunately.
I have been used Spamihilator, but also tested without starting this program.

Re: SMTP

Well, you got me at a loss here.
If your DNS cache is updated and even Outlook itsel can find the destination IP then it actually should work. Why your Outlook denies to send the email over the server it has found is a mystery to me.
Maybe a program like the mentioned Spamihilator is still running in the background even if you didn't start it? Maybe it's running as a service? Would it be possible to uninstall it temporarily to see whether there's difference?
Speaking of services: Please also make sure the status of the DNS-Client service is Started and the startup type is set to Automatic.
(Start > Run > "services.msc")
