Browser/Proxy settings

Hi all,
I'm using the 2.4.2pro version of NSM and it works fine until some days ago, when I need to uninstall and reinstall it.
I've kept the "settings.ini" file and, after the reinstall, I've put it on the work dir (overwriting the new one). After that it seems to work, change the IP, map all the networks drive, launch the scripts but it doesn't set the browser/proxy. So I've delete the "settings.ini" file and I've set all the parameters again, but it still doesn't work.
Any idea????

Did you also reinstall something else besides NSM or changed something network / user account relevant?
NSM doesn't need or place any other files or registry entries. That's why reinstalling it shouldn't change the behavior at all. Only the files within the program folder are changed or replaced.

What exactly happens when you try to change the proxy settings? Do you get an error within NSM or are the settings just not being changed? What browser are you trying to change? (IE or FF?)

Please make sure that both checkboxes in the main window and in the proxy window in front of your browser (IE or FF) are checked.

Dear Ilja,
I need to change FF & IE settings from "Auto detect proxy settings" (home) to "manual proxy configuration" (office). Everything worked fine as soon as I've reinstalled NSM. Now, on IE it works, but not with FF. I don't know why, but NSM says "OK" on proxy, but it don't modify it. As soon as I've some time to spend, I uninstall FF & NSM and reinstall it...

I am also having issues with NSM changing the Proxy settings in IE7 on XP.

We use a proxy at work but I want it turned off if the user is outside one of our offices.

If the user doesn't have Admin privileges it will not change the settings.

The user can manually change it by going to IE Options - > Connections -> LAN Settings

NSM works correctly if the user has Admin privileges.

All other settings change correctly for the user.

There are no errors.

I have tried it using the NSM service 1.0.0 and without the service.

Well, NetSetMan needs Admin privileges in general to work. Even if the user can modify those settings manually, it doesn't mean that he can do this without Administrator privileges using a third party application like NetSetMan. The proxy settings of the IE are written to the registry. If NetSetMan has no Administrator privileges, it can't write to the registry.

However, with the NSM Service it sould work correctly. Please install the NSM Service, reboot and then run NetSetMan. What message do you get when you activate the proxy settings?

Also:
- Please make sure, you have checked both checkboxes: in the main window besides "Browser" and in the browser/proxy window besides IE and all settings are set correctly
- A networkadapter needs to be selected in the profile, even if no other network settings are changed in this profile

Thanks for the answer.

For the combination to work for me I had to install the program under the user's login, Run as Admin, then do the same with the service.

I was trying to do the install from an Admin account and it wasn't granting the correct rights to the non-Admin user.
