default gateway and dhcp

Switching from a static IP address to a DHCP ip-address leave's the default gateway unchanged. The default gateway keeps the settings  belonging to the static ip-address. You have to remove the gate way setting using the windows 2000 control settings.

Re: default gateway and dhcp

If you change the settings to DHCP, Windows trys to retreive them from the DHCP server in your network. If no DHCP server can be found the last settings are kept.

You can check that the changing was proceded correctly by having a look at the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties". They will be grayed out.
You also can open the command prompt and type in "ipconfig /all" - it will tell you "DHCP activated - Yes".
The rest (deciding which ip, subnet mask or gateway you get) is task of Windows. NetSetMan can't affect that.

Re: default gateway and dhcp

I am having the same problem.  The only way that I can get it to clear is to go to the Advanced Properties of TCP/IP Settings and remove the default gateway that was placed in there when the static setting was activated.

Re: default gateway and dhcp

I also have this problem (netsetman 2.1.1) . With DHCP I get all information except the gateway. When I view afterwards in my XP-network-configuration, the former gateway is still there although greyed-out. After clearing the address, I get immediately the right gateway-address.

So I have the impression that netsetman is not clearing the gateway-address.

Re: default gateway and dhcp

I changed some things concerning this.
From version 2.2.1 on the gateway will be removed before setting to DHCP. This way DHCP can not use the current gateway and has to set/retrieve a new one.

Re: default gateway and dhcp

I have almost the opposite problem,

At one of our facillites we have full DHCP, but on the other one we have DHCP but without default gateway broadcast, this is set in the advanced options to a fixed address, but this does not work with netsetman, either you have DHCP or not, it seems that the advanced settings are not changed and are not available in netsetman?

Re: default gateway and dhcp

So what you like to do is to set DHCP settings but at the same time set a specific gateway address?

Re: default gateway and dhcp

Can be arranged ... I'll try to include it in the next version, but it might take a while until the next release because some bigger changes are in progress ... smile

I'm happy to be a (guinea pig) beta tester if you like.
