Profiles won't connect to wifi

Hello,

I have two profiles I use to connect to my wifi. They're both on the same 5Ghz connection via the same adapter; one profile's for the router itself and the other is for an extender closer to my PC.

Recently I upgraded my NetSetMan from 4.x.x to 5.0.2. When I tried to connect to either of my two profiles (set up via MAC address), it sent back an "Incorrect parameter" error:

[0:00] NetSetMan 5.0.2
           Non-Commercial Freeware Version

[0:00] Start: WOPRr5 test (2021-01-07 16:11:17)

[0:00] Start: Wi-Fi 2
[0:00] Adapter found
[0:00] Adapter Status: Start
           Restart
[0:02] Wait: 5 sec
[0:08] Adapter Status: OK
[0:08] WiFi: Start
           D4-B2-7A-72-F9-B2 (WOPR router)
[0:08] Waiting for network (E87) - Retry: 1
[0:09] Waiting for network (E87) - Retry: 2
[0:10] Waiting for network (E87) - Retry: 3
[0:11] Waiting for network (E87) - Retry: 4
[0:12] Waiting for network (E87) - Retry: 5
[0:13] WiFi: Error 87
           The parameter is incorrect

[0:13] Finish (16:11:30)

Seeing this, I deleted both profiles and started over (not realizing there was an import function). I checked Adapter Status to "Restart" and Wifi to either a wifi profile or by MAC address.

When I try to connect with the profiles using MAC addresses, I get the same parameter error as above. When I use wifi profiles I created via network scans, the profile activation says "Wifi: OK" but doesn't actually connect:

[0:00] NetSetMan 5.0.2
           Non-Commercial Freeware Version

[0:00] Start: WORPx5 (2021-01-07 16:17:56)

[0:00] Start: Wi-Fi 2
[0:00] Adapter found
[0:00] Adapter Status: Start
           Restart
[0:02] Wait: 5 sec
[0:07] Adapter Status: OK
[0:07] WiFi: Start
           WOPRext
[0:07] WiFi: OK

[0:07] Finish (16:18:04)

What am I missing? What do I need to do to get NetSetMan to actually connect to a network? MAC addresses used to work fine. I don't remember having these problems before upgrading. Please help.

FYI: I'm on Windows 10 version 20H2.

Re: Profiles won't connect to wifi

Thank you for this bug report.
We found the reason for this problem (connecting by specific MAC) and fixed this for the next update 5.0.3.

Re: Profiles won't connect to wifi

Hi,

I'm running the 5.0.5 version of the software and am seeing the same error as the previous user. Like him, my profile worked fine before the 5.0.x releases. sad

Here's the log:

[0:00] WiFi: Start
           FC-51-A4-25-36-E6
[0:00] Waiting for network (E87) - Retry: 1
[0:01] Waiting for network (E87) - Retry: 2
[0:02] Waiting for network (E87) - Retry: 3
[0:03] Waiting for network (E87) - Retry: 4
[0:04] Waiting for network (E87) - Retry: 5
           DHCP IP: 10.0.0.117
           DHCP GW: 10.0.0.1
           DHCP DNS: 75.75.75.75
[0:06] WiFi: Error 87
           The parameter is incorrect

[0:06] Finish (08:23:16)

If you need any additional information about the bug, please let me know. I'd be happy to help you debug it.

Cheers,
Michael

Re: Profiles won't connect to wifi

It looks like you are using the "Connect by MAC address" feature in a profile (in contrast to the previous problem, where a normal SSID/name was used).

We were able to reproduce your problem by leaving the "Description" field empty. Apparently nobody left it empty before, so this issue was never noticed. We will fix this with the next update. Until then simply add something as the description in the dialog where you enter the MAC address.

Re: Profiles won't connect to wifi

Good Morning!
I'm also having this error 87 issue.
I didn't find any fields, no boxes called "description" .
All fields/boxes that I have to type the name on are filled.

Where, more exactly, is it to fill in?
could post the photo (5.06)
OR
A better definition (as in the example: Menu -> Files -> ...)

Re: Profiles won't connect to wifi

Your request has probably nothing to do with the previous bug in this topic, because it has already been resolved.

Please describe, what you are trying to accomplish. There is probably just a misunderstanding.
There are two different wifi functionalities. Both are already described in the help file:
1. WiFi Management (which has nothing to do with the actual NetSetMan profiles):
https://www.netsetman.com/help?hf=en#hf_wifimanagement
2. WiFi setting in a NetSetMan profile:
https://www.netsetman.com/help?hf=en#hf_wifi

Re: Profiles won't connect to wifi

What happens:
On the home screen, (home), where all the profiles are, I choose a profile by clicking on it. I click activate.
The exact same error shown above occurs by member frostyplum.

NOTE:
I noticed that the error only occurs when the chosen network is 5GHz (Wi-Fi 802.11ac).
On 2.4 GHz networks, this does not happen.
My wifi board is "Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377" and the connected network is 5 GHz.

NOTE2:
I noticed that the error not occurs when the chosen MAC Address, instead of network´s name

Re: Profiles won't connect to wifi

We have found the reason for this issue. As previously stated, this has nothing to do with the original issue in this topic (which has already been fixed long ago).
The problem here is an incorrect identification of your wifi name as a MAC address. As a result, that name isn't used as an SSID but as a MAC address, which leads to the error "incorrect parameter". You can see this for yourself by creating two profiles with two different SSIDs and then looking inside netsetman.xml (in the program folder) to see the difference. You should actually be able to manually fix this in the settings file as a temporary solution (terminate the program, run Notepad with admin privileges, open netsetman.xml in the program folder, edit the incorrect profile accordingly to the correct profile, save, run program, don't open the WiFi dropdown box in the fixed profile anymore).

We will of course fix this for the next version.
