Tray Icon Change According to Internet Status
Hello,
Besides all other functionalities I use from NetSetMan one is to have two Profiles with Network Enabled and Network Disabled. Reason is that sometimes I need to disabled my Internet to install new drivers...or a particular software, etc. and right clicking the NetSetMan icon in Tray and change the profile is very helpful and works great.
Also sometimes my Internet can be down due to an ISP issue and the Tray Icon remains the same meaning that I based in the Icon my Internet is always up :-)
The request is to have a different Icon or just the same with a RED Cross on it or gray out (since the regular is blue) showing that either my Internet is disable or down would be great.
Thanks in advance,

Re: Tray Icon Change According to Internet Status
Unfortunately, there is no simple way of knowing if there is an active internet connection or not. Windows does not provide that information (at least we are not aware of any Windows API for that). The only way to find that out, would be to ping a remote ip and see if it responds. To change the icon based on the internet connection, the ping would need to be done continuously. That is something we don't want to do. One issue that it would require some system resources all the time and the other issue is that we cannot just add a random server ip, because then all NSM users would constantly ping that server. Allowing a custom IP to be pinged would make this feature just more complicated to an average user.

What you mean by no simple way of knowing if there is an active internet connection or not.? The default Windows 10 icon changes if my Network is available or not and if I have Internet or not. If you're saying there is no easy way to duplicate that then I will understand but like I said the default icon does that. The default icon is like a small monitor right? Every time I disable my Network and/or I lose Internet connection due to ISP issues it changes to a Globe icon and when I mouse over says I don't have Internet.

Re: Tray Icon Change According to Internet Status
Having a network connection or having an internet connection are two different things.
You can be connected to your router via a LAN cable (Windows shows a monitor icon) without actually having access to the internet, e.g. because the router is not connected to the internet (DSL not connected, invalid login data, ISP down, ...). Your Windows or other software cannot know that without constantly checking the internet status by actually accessing something in the world wide web.
