Upgrade to 5.0.5, admin pwd failed

Dear all,

just quite new to this forum I'm searching for help.

After NetSetMan was running for quite a long time in version 4.x on Win7 and then Win10, it worked like
clock work - until Microsoft decided to update the Win10 OS another time.
So I jumped to 5.0.5 and was surprised that it did not manage to map my NAS shares as it has done for years.

Moreover: the admin password was no longer valid any longer??? Using a popular password manager, I was quite sure that there's no typo. Honestly, I did not need this password for a good couple of years.

When checking the log, it seems that NetSetMan is not able to understand where to map to. We have 1 share on the NAS with special characters from the German alphabet, which seems now to turn into the main problem.

OK. How can I override the password for the admin? Any idea except installing it from scratch?

Thanks for any hint, stay healthy and have a good one,
Ralf

Re: Upgrade to 5.0.5, admin pwd failed

We assume, you are describing the NetSetMan Administration functionality that can protect profiles from being modified. The password remains the same when upgrading from 4.x to 5.x, otherwise you wouldn't be able to access the settings file at all. We haven't heard of any problems with it, even though many business customers use this functionality.

Based on your description, you haven't used the password for years. Does this mean that you configured your profiles years ago and didn't have to change them at all after that? If this is the case, then we're afraid, we can only assume that the password has not been stored correctly in your password manager.

What exactly leads you to this assumption? Please share the activation log so we can see what exactly is going on there.

It depends if your settings file (4.x: settings.ini, 5.x: netsetman.xml) is password protected or not. If it is not, then you can simply open it with a text editor and modify it or copy the relevant details. If it is password protected, then you cannot override the password.

You can reset the password and your settings if don't know the password anymore, as described in our help file: https://www.netsetman.com/help?hf=en#hf … nistration
