Profiles lost after upgrade to 5.0.1

Hi,

Windows 10 Home - 1909

Previous NetSetMan version: 4.7.2
* Stopped execution using [Quit] - no uninstall

New NetSetMan version: 5.0.1
* Ran installation executable downloaded from site customer area
* Loaded licence file provided by email

New version shows the correct version, and new UI.

New version shows none of the groups and profiles from the old version.
New version shows only initial "Group" and initial profiles "Profile 1" and "Profile 2".

Please assist to recover the original groups and profiles.
Thanks

Re: Profiles lost after upgrade to 5.0.1

This shouldn't have happened, of course.
Please navigate to your NetSetMan Pro program folder (e.g. "C:\Program Files (x86)\NetSetMan Pro").
There should be a Backup folder inside. Add it to a zip archive and send it to us. Then we can analyze the problem and help you recover your profiles.

Re: Profiles lost after upgrade to 5.0.1

We have found and been able to solve the problem that affects certain constellations.
The download has been replaced with the updated version. The version number remains unchanged.

For those who are already affected by this problem and end up without their profiles after an upgrade, here are the steps to restore them:

  1. In the main menu choose "Options" > "Import" > "Profiles & Preferences" > [OK]

  2. In the right bottom corner select "4.x Profiles & Preferences"

  3. You should already be in your program folder, now open the "Backup" folder.

  4. Select the newest backup file (by timestamp), click [Open] and confirm with [OK]

You should now have all previous profiles and settings back.

Re: Profiles lost after upgrade to 5.0.1

Hi, having the same issue.

When using import I get an "Access violation at address 00408E7C in module 'netsetman.exe' Read of address FFFFFFD3" error.

I removed all existing profiles, did an import again and the settings were imported - but not the auto activate settings.

Added them manually again.

Greetings

This is confusing, because version 5.x has a special dialog for access violations (that looks like this). You should then be able to save the bug report and send it to us like the other user did in the linked topic.

Could you please send us your settings.ini file so we can try to reproduce the problem with your settings?
You should be able to find a backup of your last settings.ini file in the Backup folder inside the NetSetMan program folder. Please send it to us as an email attachment. Thanks.

Re: Profiles lost after upgrade to 5.0.1

Thanks for the response.

According to your instructions, I should have "C:\Program Files (x86)\NetSetMan Pro", but I have "C:\Program Files (x86)\NetSetMan" as I upgraded from Free to Pro at some point.
Does this make any difference?

FYI: I found "C:\Program Files (x86)\NetSetMan\Backup" containing backups of the ini file.
I can send the latest, but how/where? I'm not posting it...

Lastly, as of now (04.01.2021) the application told me v5.0.2 was available, so I upgraded. Still no success as expected, but I also can't import my preferences a suggested above.
Where do I find the menu item "Options" > "Import" > "Profiles & Preferences"? I see nothing like that from the task bar right-click menu, nor from the main app itself. Please assist.

Thanks

Re: Profiles lost after upgrade to 5.0.1

RESOLVED

All previous groups and profiles are available again. smile

The ability to import a backup of a 4.x "ini" file is only possible when the UI is in "Full Mode".
The menu item "Options" > "Import" > "Profiles & Preferences" works as posted by Support.

Thanks for your help.
