NetSetMan not running

XP SP3 home edition and limited user

Good day! I've used older version and today I decided to uninstall it in order to download a new one and "netsetman service" (I'm using non-privileged account).

I've installed netsetman under administrative account, second - I've managed to install "service", it is running normally. After rebooting I get "service" running, but I can't run NetSetMan.exe itself.
After I click  "NetSetMan" in "Start" menu it just shows sand-glasses and task manager doesn't show any process except nsmService.exe.

If I stop "service" and run netsetman.exe then I get message which makes me decide either enter admin credentials either install "service". Any suggestions?

Re: NetSetMan not running

I knot that the problem as you described it might occur if you use RDP (Remote Desktop). If that's the case for you there's currently no solution for this.

If you're using a normal local system read on.
Make sure everything is set up correctly:
- Go to the services dialog (or run "services.msc"), scroll down to NSM Service and check whether it's properties are correct (version 1.1.0 (not the old 1.0.0), Started, Automatic, Log On -> Local System Account)
- Restart the service and try to run NetSetMan again

If it didn't help, try to deactivate any security related programs temporarily that might be able to block a communication between a program and a service.

If nothing helps, it might be the best for you, to uninstall the service and use the Admin-Mode (entering admin cedentials from a local admin account).

Re: NetSetMan not running

Thanks. I'm currently using Agnitum OutPost Security Suite 2008 and NOD32 v.3. I've looked up all logs, turned off agnitum and it didn't help.

After all, i've disabled netsetman service. Then tried to run netsetman.exe as non-privilleged user, entered admin credentials and error message told me that it was unable to write to "c:\program files\netsetman\settings.ini". I checked myself running "notepad.exe" with the same credentials, edited settings.ini and successfully saved the file :-\ The solution was to give Users group full access to settings.ini
